Testimony After Trauma: Preparing Public Safety Personnel Before, During and After the Courts

This book provides initial and critical insights into the area of lived experience of testifying in court. It examines the role of those who testify in a court proceeding and those who support them. Specifically, the information is intended to help public safety personnel members after they have encountered or experienced a traumatic event because of their duties at work. The book outlines risk factors and presents some strategies that can be developed to prepare a person for the courtroom. It looks at the importance of providing support during court testimony, not only to the public safety personnel member who is testifying, but also to their family before, during and after giving testimony. The book also provides information about what treatment and support may be needed for public safety personnel throughout the court process and how public safety organizations can best support a member when they are facing charges themselves.
