This text presents a thematic approach with abundant pedagogy to help students learn the material. A strong participation theme makes use of vignettes and examples to highlight individuals who have made a difference in Texas politics and helps to emphasize the positive impact dedicated citizens can have on the political process. A second theme focuses on Texas as compared to other 'megastates'?large, urbanized industrial states such as California, New York, and Florida.

Nasser Momayezi is Professor of Political Science and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M International University in Laredo. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. He teaches American Government, Texas Government, and courses on Constitutional Law.
