Textbook of Space Science

This book offers a comprehensive exploration of the earth's atmosphere, highlighting its vital functions in sustaining life. It examines the composition and structure of the atmosphere, including layers such as the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere, and discusses how these layers interact with solar radiation and cosmic events. In addition to Earth's atmosphere, it provides insights into various celestial bodies, including the Sun, which serves as the primary energy source for our planet, and the planets within our solar system. It explores their physical characteristics, atmospheres, and potential for hosting life, particularly focusing on Mars, Venus, and the icy moons of the Jupiter and Saturn. The text also addresses the intriguing question of extraterrestrial life, discussing the conditions necessary for life to exist and the ongoing search for habitable environments beyond the Earth. This includes the study of exoplanets, the role of astrobiology, and missions aimed at exploring other celestial bodies for signs of life. Overall, the book serves as a foundational resource for understanding the intricate relationships between the Earth's atmosphere, celestial phenomena, and the broader implications for life in the universe. …
