Textbook of Type 2 Diabetes

Given the increase in the incidence of Type 2 diabetes in an ever younger age group, Type 2 diabetes will soon reach epidemic proportions. To keep pace with this increase, the clinician who treats diabetic patients needs to learn about early diagnosis to prevent organ damage, adequate control of the disease, and long-term management. In Textbook of Type 2 Diabetes, the editors and their team of distinguished contributors examine all aspects of Type 2 diabetes, from psychosocial aspects to foot ulcers and strategies for the future.

The book opens with a review of demographics and pathogenesis. It covers disease monitoring, approaches to glucose control, and management of micro- and macrovascular complications of diabetes. The editors highlight special situations in gestational diabetes and type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents. The chapters covering special considerations give you access to current information on managing diabetic patients during surgery and anesthesia, how type 2 diabetes can occur secondary to drugs, hormones, and other endocrinopathies. From epidemiology and diagnosis to therapeutic approaches and worldwide demographic issues, the book offers coverage that is comprehensive in range and depth.

I enjoyed reading this textbook and it is a comprehensive, well organized text. I especially like the chapter on pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes, providing concise and current information. The text is an up-to-date source for the practicing endocrinologist and important for resident and will be very helpful for medical student.
