Over 750 pages of primary source materials for the study of the history and literature of the Jews in Late Antiquity. Provides excellent coverage of this formative period in Jewish and Christian history. It provides the necessary background in Hebrew Bible before entering the difficult maze of Judaism in the Persian, Hellenistic, and Roman environments. Each chapter has a special introduction that explains the significance of the texts that are to follow. In addition, each excerpt begins with a brief commentary.
