Half pebbled brown leather over marbled paper boards, boards ruled in gold, spines in six compartments with gold tooling and gold lettering; all edges marbled. Marbled endpapers and pastedowns. With 325 illustrations by the author, Du Maurier, Cruikshank, Leech, Millais, Barnard, and others. Illustrations are black and white plates. Works in this set include Vanity Fair, The History of Henry Esmond, The Memoirs of Barry Lyndon, The Virginians, Thackeray's essays, sketches and papers, Pendennis, The Newcomes, his Christmas books, among several other novels and short stories. A touch of wear to the extremities, one leaf with a tear, one volume with a contemporary name on a blank leaf, one front hinge strained, overall most of the volumes are sharp and bright.
