Synopsis:

This book is a hands-on overview of producing and theatre management. It is designed for everyone from the artist who wants a better perspective of producing to the theatre management professional who would like a different view of his or her daily tasks to the non-theatre practitioner who may be considering a theatrical investment. This innovative, practical and concise text gives step-by-step instructions on how to produce a play on any stage, for commercial or non-profit productions.

The book is designed with both the novice and experienced producer in mind. The novice will find a thorough yet easy to understand introduction to the fundamentals of producing: legal management, financial management, personnel, networking, strategic planning, marketing, fund raising, leadership and time management. At the same time, the more experienced producer will find a fresh and innovative approach to these fundamentals as well as more in-depth guidance through eleven hands-on appendices which cover everything including: limited partnership agreements, house management, organizational by-laws, program and even playbill design. All of this information is presented in a concise, easy-to-read and innovative style, complete with intriguing production photographs from a selection of Broadway, regional theatre, touring and college productions.
