Thelonious Monk - Collection

Thelonious Monk Collection is a piano transcription songbook devoted to jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk. It presents note-for-note transcriptions drawn from Monk recordings, giving pianists a direct connection to 12 jazz classics. It is relevant for pianists exploring Monk's compositions, jazz musicians studying his performances, teachers selecting transcription material, and admirers seeking a focused collection of his piano music.

The book contains 12 complete piano transcriptions, plus a biography and discography identifying the recordings used. Rather than presenting newly adapted versions, it focuses on note-for-note transcriptions of Monk's recorded playing. This piano and keyboard resource supports practice, musical study, repertoire exploration, reference, and performance preparation.

Working from recorded-performance transcriptions offers an opportunity to examine details that give Monk's music its distinctive identity. Pianists can explore his phrasing, rhythmic ideas, harmonic language, melodic shapes, and treatment of familiar compositions while connecting the music with the documented recordings.
