Theological and Halakhic Reflections on the Holocaust

For a generation after the Holocaust relatively little work of a theological nature appeared - the shock seems to have been too great, and the task of rebuilding shattered communities diverted energies that might have been devoted to it. Moreover, many of those who had been dissatisfied with the religious condition of European Jewry were content to see the events they had witnessed as God's judgement on his erring people.
This collection of articles represents in great treasure the theological response of centrist Orthodoxy a generation after, and represents a rejection of the "God's judgement theory." It contains a wealth of material, some of them classic pieces long unavailable and many written for this volume by distinguished Orthodox thinkers. Among the former are an English translation of Rabbi J. B. Soloveitchik's "Kol Dodi Dofek: It Is the Voice of My Beloved" and Dr. Norman Lamm's "The Face of God: Thoughts on the Holocaust." Among the latter are articles by Rabbis Emanuel Rackman, Haskel Lookstein, Louis Bernstein, Reuven P. Bulka, Emanuel Feldman, Dr. Eliezer Berkovits, as well as the editors themselves.
