Theology for the Rest of Us: A User-Friendly Guide to Super Cool, Really Transformational Stuff About God and Why It Matters

Dive into Theology and Enjoy the Deep End of God's Love

Have you ever heard someone use a multisyllabic theological term and secretly thought, I have no idea what they're talking about--just give me Jesus? You're not alone. And you're exactly who this book was written for.

In Theology for the Rest of Us, Lisa Harper--theologian, Bible teacher, speaker, and host of the podcast Back Porch Theology--puts the cookies on the lower shelf. Drawing on her extensive seminary training and her gift for making complex ideas feel like a conversation with a brilliant friend, she walks you through the key concepts of Christianity with warmth, humor, and zero condescension. Because good theology isn't simply about learning--it's about living.
You'll discover what theologians actually mean--and why it matters for your daily life--when they talk about:
● Atonement -- what exactly Jesus accomplished on the cross, and why it's the hinge of everything
● Covenant -- how God has always been binding himself to his people across the entire sweep of Scripture
● Soteriology -- the doctrine of salvation, and what it means to be saved in the fullest biblical sense
● Eschatology -- what the Bible actually says about the end times, without the sensationalism
● Hermeneutics -- how to read and interpret Scripture well, so you can trust what you're reading
● The Trinity -- one God, three persons, and why this isn't a contradiction but the very heart of the Christian faith
● Spiritual gifts -- what they are, who has them, and how they function in the life of the church
● . . . and so much more, all grounded in Scripture and told through Lisa's signature storytelling

Theology for the Rest of Us will help you lean more fully into the unconditional love of Jesus, build a biblically sound belief system, and share the living hope of the Gospel with others.

Theology was always meant for the rest of us. Let Lisa show you why--and how much it changes everything.

Lisa Harper is an engaging communicator as well as an authentic and substantive Bible teacher in person, on TV, and on the radio. She holds a master of theological studies from Covenant Seminary and will graduate from Houston Theological Seminary with an earned doctorate in the spring of 2026. She's been in vocational ministry for 30 years and has written many popular books and Bible study curriculums but says her greatest accomplishment by far is becoming mama to Missy, her adopted daughter from Haiti. They live on a hilly farmette south of Nashville, Tennessee, where they enjoy eating copious amounts of chips, queso, and guacamole.
