This second edition of The Theory of Strains in Girders and Similar Structures: With Observations on the Application of Theory to Practice and Tables of the Strength and Other Properties of Materials by Bindon B. Stoney was published in London by Longmans, Green, and Co. in 1869. Issued in two octavo volumes, it represents a major Victorian engineering text on elasticity, the strength of materials, and structural mechanics. The first volume runs to 182 pages, while the second extends from [xvi], 183–521 pages. It includes five engraved plates and numerous in-text figures, charts, and tables. Provenance includes Owens College, Manchester, with the institution’s gilt stamp present on the covers. Condition: Very Good. Full leather bindings with gilt decoration, rubbing to extremities, but spines tight and secure. Text blocks clean and complete, plates intact.
