Fromme, an archaeologist from the future, inhabiting the body of a brain-damaged war hero, only wants the facts, but the facts keep changing.
Fromme Marrs seems to be a brain-injured reporter thrust into a web of cosmic intrigue, political satire, and spiritual revelations. As he navigates a world where extinction, faith, and quantum physics intertwine, Fromme uncovers secrets about humanity’s fragility and resilience. At the center is Dr. Manny Malmud, a prophetic figure whose post-mortem resurrection inspires awe—and terror. "The Theory of All Things" is a gripping novel that dares to ask: What if the universe’s deepest mysteries aren’t out there but within us?
Welcome to a future where humanity is on the brink, aliens may lurk in plain sight, and the absurdities of faith and science collide. J.E. Murphy's "The Theory of All Things" follows Fromme Marrs, a war hero-turned-reporter, as he unravels the mystery of a professor-turned-prophet who may or may not have a lobster living in his head. This satirical yet heartfelt tale is a tour de force of humor, existential dread, and the enduring quest for meaning.

From the Inside Flap
- Douglas Adams (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy):
- Tone & Humor: Like Adams, Murphy uses absurdity and satire to create a surreal world. The interplay between serious topics, such as human extinction and space aliens, with humorous, almost nonsensical dialogue (e.g., pickle relish on a hot dog leading to a murder) mirrors the way Adams introduces ridiculous yet oddly logical plot points (like the absurdity of a bureaucratic space government or an improbably sentient pot of petunias).
- Characters: Both authors employ characters who are often out of their depth, wandering through situations beyond their control, with deadpan humor and existential overtones.
- Kurt Vonnegut (Slaughterhouse-Five, Cat's Cradle):
- Theme of Fatalism & Chaos: Murphy's exploration of fate (e.g., Fromme's pursuit of a woman leading to unanticipated consequences) and existential futility echoes Vonnegut's theme of "so it goes." The blending of mundane life events with cosmic, chaotic occurrences (e.g., a hot dog stand murder tied to a larger, surreal conspiracy) is reminiscent of Vonnegut's dark humor and commentary on human nature.
- Dialogue: Murphy's dialogue, like Vonnegut's, carries a sharp wit, often making light of serious situations. The characters' almost casual reactions to violence and existential crises are similar to how Vonnegut's characters process trauma.
- Terry Pratchett (Discworld series):
- Satire and Parody: Murphy's use of parody, such as mocking political and religious organizations, aligns with Pratchett's knack for social satire. Murphy, like Pratchett, uses fictional settings to critique real-world issues such as political extremism and economic inequality.
- Philip K. Dick (Ubik, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?):
- Blurring of Reality: Murphy's exploration of reality, with characters questioning what's real (e.g., whether the murdered man was human or alien), reflects Dick's philosophical explorations of reality and identity. The constant undercurrent of paranoia in Murphy's plot and the surreal twists reflect Dick's influence, where reality is often uncertain, and characters question their perceptions.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
