Voice is not just sound – it is relational, emotional and embodied. Our voices sit at the intersection between mind, brain, body and culture. Integrating core principles of Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) with dialogic, systemic and narrative approaches, this book positions the voice as central to psychotherapy. The authors show how, by using voice awareness alongside transference mapping and deploying the two with compassion and curiosity, readers can help clients to reclaim silenced or distorted voices and navigate the relational patterns of interaction that shape their own and other’ s lives. Accessible yet profound, and rich not only in theory but also in tools for everyday practice, Therapy with a Voice is an invitation to find, own and free our voices, and to discover their power in shaping human connection. It speaks to anyone for whom voice matters in talking, helping, managing and caring for others.

About the Author
Lucy Cutler is a CAT and EMDR therapist, a chartered clinical psychologist and a CAT supervisor working in private practice in the Channel Islands. She has a varied background of working in Australia, the NHS and for the States of Jersey. She works in a relational way, to support people in better understanding their relationship with themselves and others, and in finding their voices in therapy. Steve Potter is a psychotherapist who is teaches and supervises Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) and its application to reflective practice in the UK and internationally. His central interest is in the co-creative process of relational mapping, and how it allows us to see and say things that otherwise might be too complex to hold in mind. He is co-editor of the International Journal of Cognitive Analytic Therapy and Relational Mental Health.
