The preface reads ''The thermodynamics of irreversible processes describes a relatively recent branch of macroscopic physics which has achieved great significance for its applications;, particularly in physical chemistry. This monograph is therefore intended primarily for physical chemists and physicists. Chemists and engineers with fundamental training in physical chemistry will also be able to follow the text. The reader should master differential and integral calculus, the elements of vector analysis and linear algebra as well as the fundamentals of mechanics and electrodynamics.''
