How Things Work: Physics for Kids: An Illustrated STEM Adventure Through Machines, Motion, Forces, Energy, Electricity, Gravity, Light, Sound, and Space for Ages 6–12
Have you ever wondered how a bicycle moves, why a swing goes back and forth, how a flashlight produces light, or why the Moon stays in orbit?
How Things Work: Physics for Kids takes young readers on an exciting illustrated adventure through the science behind everyday objects, machines, technology, and the universe. Designed for curious children ages 6–12, this book explains fascinating physics concepts in a simple, engaging, and kid-friendly way.
From the machines children use every day to the forces that shape planets and stars, readers can discover how physics helps explain the world around them.
Inside, young explorers can discover:
-
How machines and simple mechanisms work
-
Motion, speed, and forces
-
Gravity and falling objects
-
Energy and how it moves and changes
-
Electricity and circuits
-
Magnetism and magnetic forces
-
Light, colors, shadows, and reflection
-
Sound, vibrations, and waves
-
Space, planets, stars, and gravity
-
Real-life examples of physics
-
Fascinating science facts
-
STEM activities that encourage observation and problem-solving
-
Questions that inspire children to think about how and why things work
The illustrated format helps make scientific ideas easier to visualize, while real-life examples connect physics to familiar experiences. Children can explore the science behind bicycles, vehicles, playground equipment, household objects, electronics, sports, musical instruments, and much more.
Rather than simply memorizing scientific terms, young readers are encouraged to observe, ask questions, make connections, and develop the mindset of a scientist and problem-solver.
Perfect for:
-
Children ages 6–12
-
Curious young scientists
-
STEM enthusiasts
-
Homeschool families
-
Elementary science enrichment
-
Parents looking for educational screen-free learning
-
Kids interested in machines, inventions, and technology
-
Young readers fascinated by space and how the universe works
-
Teachers looking for supplemental science material
How Things Work: Physics for Kids helps children see that physics isn't just a school subject. It is part of the bicycle they ride, the sounds they hear, the light they see, the machines they use, and the world they explore every day.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
