Across the globe, there are more than four thousand policy institutes, or think tanks, that research or advocate for economic and social development. He is also author of several books, most recently Democratization and Market Reform in Developing and Transitional Countries: Think Tanks as Catalysts. Anna Viden is lecturer in international relations at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on U.S.-Saudi relations and U.S. Mideast policy in general. Jillian Rafferty was formerly editor-in-chief of the Journal of International Relations at the University of Pennsylvania and currently works as Program Coordinator for the Americas Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
