About the Authors
Wallace D. Wattles was an American writer associated with the New Thought movement of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Born in 1860, he developed a practical philosophy centered on creative thought, gratitude, purposeful action, and the belief that personal advancement need not come at the expense of others.Wattles is best remembered for The Science of Getting Rich, part of a larger body of work that also includes The Science of Being Well and The Science of Being Great. His ideas have influenced generations of writers and speakers concerned with prosperity, achievement, and the relationship between thought and experience.
James Allen was a British philosophical writer born in Leicester in 1864. After working in business for many years, he devoted himself to writing about character, self-discipline, responsibility, and the influence of thought upon conduct and circumstance. His prose combines moral philosophy, practical psychology, and spiritual reflection.Allen is best known for As a Man Thinketh, first published in 1903. Its concise argument that character and circumstances are shaped by habitual thought made it one of the most enduring works of early self-help literature. His other books include From Poverty to Power, The Path of Prosperity, and Above Life's Turmoil.
Prentice Mulford was an American writer, humorist, lecturer, and early New Thought author born in New York in 1834. His varied life included years at sea, participation in the California Gold Rush, journalism, and public speaking before he became known for his essays on mental influence, health, prosperity, and personal development.Mulford's writings, later collected in the series Your Forces and How to Use Them, helped popularize the idea that thoughts possess real power in shaping attitudes, relationships, and opportunities. His essay Thoughts Are Things remains one of his best-known works and an important early expression of positive-thinking philosophy.
