Published by Public Consulting Group, Thinkquiry Toolkit 1 is a collection of teacher instructional practices, student learning strategies, and collaborative routines. Different populations can use the tools to support content literacy development in grades 4-12. We developed the materials to provide directions, templates, examples, and scenarios based on teacher requests. Thinkquiry Toolkit 1 is divided into four sections: Selecting the right tools, laying the foundation, building new knowledge, and expanding and deepening understanding. An alignment matrix allows you to match strategies to learner needs. To be selected as a Thinkquiry tool, the practice, strategy, or routine had to be research-based, high impact, and multi-purpose. We also verified with teachers that each Thinkquiry tool works with students in multiple content areas to improve reading and learning. Once students begin using and experiencing the tools regularly across the content areas, they will develop confidence and competence as readers, writers, and learners.
