Thirty-Five Years Of A Dramatic Author'S Life (Volume Ii)

Edward Fitzball wrote for applause, but lived for the story behind it. Thirty-Five Years Of A Dramatic Author's Life (Volume II) returns you to the noisy, gaslit world of Victorian London theatre, told as a theatrical autobiography by one of its working dramatists. The curtain rises on life. Part confession, part notebook, this Victorian literary memoir gathers London stage anecdotes, professional skirmishes, and the daily pressures of 19th century playwriting from a man who knew managers, actors, and audiences at close range. Volume II widens the canvas, following a career built in rehearsal rooms, crowded offices, and the constant negotiation between art and commerce. Read it as a theatre history biography and as a record of 1800s British theatre in motion: shifting tastes, practical stagecraft, and the hard economics that shaped what Britain watched at night. Fitzball's eye for incident makes the British theatre backstage life vivid without losing the period's manners, while his long view turns private recollection into a valuable theatre studies reference. In this Edward Fitzball memoir, names matter less than atmosphere: how a hit was made, and how disappointment was survived night after night. Biography and memoir readers will relish the personality and pace; classic-literature collectors will value it as a classic stage memoir collection that deepens any shelf of Victorian performance writing. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today - a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike.
