Thomas Shadwell's Libertine.: A Complementary Study To The Don Juan-Literature

Thomas Shadwell's Libertine is a book written by August Steiger that serves as a complementary study to the Don Juan literature. The book analyzes the works of Thomas Shadwell, a prominent Restoration dramatist, and explores the themes of libertinism and sexual promiscuity in his plays. Steiger delves into the historical context of the Restoration era and examines how Shadwell's works reflect the social and cultural attitudes towards sexuality during that time. The book also explores the character of Don Juan, a legendary figure known for his sexual conquests, and how Shadwell's portrayal of him differs from other literary depictions. Through detailed analysis and critical commentary, Thomas Shadwell's Libertine provides a comprehensive understanding of the themes and motifs present in Shadwell's works, and sheds light on the cultural and social implications of libertinism in Restoration England. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
