Add to basketReeve, Benham and Reeve, London. 1849. 8th edition. Square 8vo hardback. Green textured cloth with blind illustration on boards and gilt decoration on front board, some wear to extremities and spine. All edges gilt. Portrait frontis with tissue guard (with attractive offsetting from portrait), vignette title page. 4 wonderfully coloured chromolitho plates plus 28 illustrations in text. Some marks to rear endpapers, and tiny ownership sticker to front pastedown. Some children's pencil marks on pages, mostly erased. Inner hinge visible, but holding, at list of plates. Illustrations are referred to as lignographs (abv. lign), Mantell was the only person to ever use this term. It did not catch on.
