Three-Dimensional Illustration: Designing with Paper, Clay, Casts, Wood, Assemblage, Plastics, Fabric, Metal an d Food

Advertising and editorial art directors searching for new ways to capture viewers attention have been looking beyond traditional two-dimensional art and turning increasingly to the unique visuals provided by three-dimensional illustration. Ellen Rixford's 3-Dimensional Illustration is the first book to address the full scope of illustrating in three dimensions, as well as the first to provide clear instructions on how to do it.
Because the dimensional illustrator must be skilled in a variety of sculpture-based media, the book devotes a separate section to each major approach: paper, clay, molding and casting, carving and assemblage, fabric, metal, and even food. Hundreds of spectacular works by an array of top dimensional artists demonstrate the wide range of eye-catching effects this field offers effects that conventional two dimensional illustration can't hope to match.
Each section also includes several step-by-step demonstrations, showing the complete route from conceptualization to finished piece. And because even the best sculptural work can lose something on its way from the artist's studio to the printed page, a special section on photography explains how finished pieces should be photographed to ensure optimum reproduction quality.
Packed with practical information and superior images, 3-Dimensional Illustration is the only guide to this fast-growing field. Illustrators, sculptors, art directors, and advertising and editorial clients will all find themselves drawn to this instructive and entertaining volume.
