In Article 9 of the Belgic Confession, three short documents dating from the early history of the Christian church are named as creeds: the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed. The adoption of the Belgic Confession by the sixteenth and seventeenth-century synods of the Reformed Churches in the Netherlands implied approval of these creeds.
