Synopsis
Young d artagnan has only one ambition, to be a king s musketeer some day. With these dreams he reaches paris. Monsieur de treville however makes him a member of the king s guards, and promises that if he proves his worth he can become a musketeer one day. Meanwhile d artagnan befriends athos, porthos, and aramis, three musketeers, and also falls in love with the beautiful constance bonacieux. She is queen anne of france s linen maid. Queen anne of france presents her diamond studs to the duke of buckingham, her secret lover. The king, louise xiii, suddenly announces a ball where he wants the queen to wear his gift, the diamonds studs. Madame constance then seeks d artagnan s help in getting the diamonds back to the queen. With the wicked cardinal and his men chasing him, will d artagnan be able to save the queen s honour? will he fulfill his dream of being a musketeer?
About the Author
Alexandre Dumas was one of the greatest French novelists of all time, noted for his thrilling historical adventure novels. His most famous works include The Three Musketeers, The Count of Monte Cristo and The Man in the Iron Mask. Alexandre Dumas was born in 1802 in Villers-Cotterets, a small town about 80 kilometers north of Paris. Although his father had been a nobleman and a general in the French army, he had fallen out of favour with the government and Dumas grew up poor. Dumas worked as a notary clerk before having success as a playwright, scoring a big hit with the play Henry III and his Court. Following the success of his plays, Dumas began writing historical novels, or novels loosely based on actual historical people and events, but still containing a great deal of fiction. The Three Musketeers, published in 1844, is an example of this type of work. Dumas' historical novels proved to be wildly successful and earned the author a tremendous fortune. However, he quickly spent that fortune on a lavish lifestyle, which included expensive homes. He even spent two years in Belgium in an effort to escape his mounting debts. At times during his life, Dumas experienced racism, as his grandmother was a black slave from Haiti. However, he became the most famous and popular writer France has ever produced. His works have been translated into more than 100 languages and numerous movies have been based on his stories. His son Alexandre Dumas fils (French for 'son') also became a successful writer. Dumas died in 1870 of a stroke. In 2002, French President Jacques Chirac ordered Dumas' coffin exhumed and the famous writer then was buried in the Pantheon of Paris, a mausoleum reserved for France's greatest heroes A commerce graduate from Haryana, India, AMIT TAYAL also holds a certificate in graphic design as well as a diploma in 2D animation. Having worked as a 2D animator and then a children's book illustrator, Amit expanded his art into the graphic novel realm where his work continues to enthrall.
