Illustrated by Jack Levine, the introduction by Eric Bentley. Signed by both on the limitation page at back. # 1570 of 2000 copies. The book is fresh and as new, the slipcase with a few scratches. Includes an original lithograph frontis by Levine plus other full page illustrations. Brecht's highly successful, baudy contemporary takeoff on John Gay's 1728 The Beggar's Opera, featuring the degenerate gangland assassin MacHeath -- the original Mackie the Knife -- just as Gay portrayed thieves and prostitutes in 18th century London.
