Three Pines

"Three Pines" A Novel by Willard R. Douglas In the wide sweep of the American frontier, two young men find something rare and quietly extraordinary—each other. When Jacob leaves behind everything he’s known to find work on a remote orchard, he carries with him questions too big for words and a heart too tender for the world he’s known. Under the vast Western North Carolina sky he meets Caleb—a quiet, steady cattle hand with a gaze like autumn sunlight and a past as deep as the land they work. Together, they build not just a life, but a home. Through changing seasons, hidden glances, and growing trust, their love deepens in the shelter of the East Tennessee orchard they plant and the community they nourish. As the years pass, Jacob and Caleb weather loss, joy, and the slow unfolding of chosen family—with each apple tree a testament to the life they’ve cultivated in defiance of the odds. Three Pines is a sweeping, lyrical novel of love and belonging—of what it means to make a life that is wholly your own, rooted in tenderness, courage, and quiet devotion.
