A scarce work, with the seldom seen Baltimore imprint.** George Walker (1772-1847) was a London bookseller and author of ten or eleven novels, the best known of which is The Vagabond. As a distributor of all sorts of fiction, Walker was able to adjust the types of novel he wrote according to contemporary literary demands, in this case, Gothic. The very brief Preface sets the popular tone: "In compliance with the present Taste in Literary Amusement, this work is presented to the Public." One critic's judgement was that The Three Spaniards demonstrates Walker's versatility in pleasing the trends and tastes of Gothic fashion. Whatever the critical assessments, The Three Spaniards enjoyed wide popularity, appearing in several English editions, also in Ireland, the United States, and in French translation.** Printed by R.J. Matchett for Thomas W. Cleland, Baltimore.** "Postage for oversized and international shipping will be calculated by size and weight. AbeBooks shipping quotes are ESTIMATES only.
