Two volume set. Rebacked keeping blue cloth spine, gilt, with new decorative blue cloth. Both covers creased on the front, spotted on the back and lightly bumped corners. Endpapers were kept, along with former owner's bookplate. Minor foxing to the extremities and edges of the plates. (i) xxv, 428pp. A few pages of the index sticking together and dampstain in the margin of p403. Contains 17 plates, five maps and many illustrations. (ii) xiii, 444pp. Contains 27 plates, plus many illustrations and four maps, two of which fold out. First fold-out map tears starting at folds. Second fold-out map with repaired tear and more tears at the folded corners. Newspaper and magazine articles laid in, along with a folded map of the expedition. Greely's expedition explored what are now known as Nunavut and Greenland.
