Size: Rectangular Octavo. The Preface reads in part: "The extraordinary interest awakened in the cause of Temperance is one of the notable manifestations of benevolent and religious activity. . .To aid in the performance of this philanthropic service, The Tidal Wave has been compiled." There are 61 temperance songs with titles such as The Tidal Wave, On to the Conquest!, Vote It Out, O Rouse Ye, Christian Woman, For God and the Right, Intemperance Like a Raging Flood. Black cloth spine, orange paper over boards, 5½" x 8 3/8", 64 pages (the title page & Preface are included), published by Biglow & Main, New York; and National Temperance Society & Publication House, New York; Index to titles and first lines, back cover has a price list of other song books of a religious nature. Boards quite soiled and chipped along all edges; a little foxing on endpapers, front & rear; previous owner's name on front free endpaper, rear free endpaper has a list of six names written in pencil with $1 written next to each, rear paste-down has several names of songs with the page numbers, a few pages have a crease at a corner.
