Second edition with corrections, additions and revisions - not the least being Darwin's change of opinion as to the actual measurement of the moon's attraction on the earth's surface. "A masterpiece of semi-popular scientific exposition" according to James Jeans in the DNB, it is based on his 1897 Lowell Institute lectures and is, in a way, a summary of the theories and investigations that occupied most of his working life.
