The Tiger-Skin

A gathering of lost souls under the watch of a headless coachman. An obsession with eugenics spiraling into cruel and destructive madness.

In 1911, British writer, feminist, and literary salon hostess Violet Hunt published her groundbreaking first collection of uncanny fiction, Tales of the Uneasy. These stories explore psychological disturbance and spectral hauntings, each infused with a deep sense of tragedy and emotional unease.

Often overshadowed by the celebrated authors within her social circle, Hunt’s achievements have long deserved renewed attention. In this new edition, literary historian Melissa Edmundson reintroduces readers to Hunt’s most unsettling tales, drawing not only from the original collection but also including material from her 1923 volume More Tales of the Uneasy.
