About the Author

Wisdom can be garnered from education or chiseled from experience, but sometimes life's most important lessons are a result of failure or adversity. And so it was for Lindenhurst author, Alan Brask. After years in management, training and consulting, Alan found that he had everything society seem to value—a wife, children, a new home, expensive cars, and every form of furniture and appliance known to man. Everything that is, except happiness. He had, in effect, climbed the ladder of success, only to find that it was leaning against the wrong wall.

And so began a ten year flirtation with depression which resulted in a stalled career, a failed marriage, and a broken spirit. Then, in 1996, Alan suffered the loss of his father, a gifted man who had nonetheless been beaten down by mental illness and separated from reality by dementia. The personal introspection following that loss motivated a quest for a meaning to life. After interviewing hundreds of people about their lives, the author began to realize that only a small number of the individuals judged as successful by society's usual standards would describe themselves as “happy.” On the other hand, true happiness could be found along many paths and in many forms.

That discovery proved to be the foundation for a philosophy for living outlined in Tiger Success and a series of seminars and speeches. While sometimes poignant, Tiger Success, subtitled “Thriving in Our Jungle... With Skills Learned in Theirs”, is a humorous and entertaining approach to happiness and success.
