Synopsis
Tigers' Wisdom 2010 is a graduation gift from those who have graduated from or attended Mitchell High School in Memphis, Tennessee--home of the Mighty Tigers. This book was written for the Graduates of 2010 to help them learn from the experiences of the author and other contributors to the book. The Tigers who have shared their experiences have been candid about their experiences, some of which are quite disturbing. Despite the raw realism of some of the book's content, it nevertheless invites Graduates to think critically and to cultivate an "informed optimism" about the world. Chapters on education, career choices, common obstacles, and trends that bode well for this millennial generation provide guidance about the outside world. Ruled pages between chapters allow ample space for taking notes. In both content and format, Tigers' Wisdom picks up where conventional books about graduating and furthering one's education leave off. As such, the book is a literary and spiritual celebration of life to the Graduates of 2010 whom we all wish well!
About the Author
Sharon Bush Pedersen, a.k.a., "Most Studious", is a 1976 graduate-in the 1977 cohort-of Mitchell High School. Despite growing up in an economically disadvantaged household, Sharon managed to make educational and career decisions that have contributed to a long career in international economics and finance, as well as fluency in 4 languages. To this day, she credits Mrs. Elizabeth Durham's high school English classes, Mr. Ed Smith's Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and Trigonometry classes, plus Mr. Joe Love's Calculus class with making daily--and joyful--contributions to her life as an economist, educator, and author. Dr. Bush Pedersen holds the conviction that, despite hardships and setbacks, graduates can create lives full of dignity, service, and material well-being. -There are many more educational and economic opportunities today than previously. Tigers Wisdom 2010 is her attempt, along with the insights of other Tigers quoted in the book, to inspire Mitchell High School Graduates to make a positive difference in their lives and in the lives of others.
