PreS-Gr 1--Since 1951, the Timbertoes have graced the pages of Highlights for Children. Those unfamiliar with the puppetlike family may find the mixture of the black-ink cartoons with the colorful illustrations full of depth, texture, and detail somewhat anachronistic. Somehow, the contrast is effective and Hunt's use of color provides a strong focus. The text is acceptable, suitably simple, but lacks the wit of more entertaining offerings. In communities where Highlights and the Timbertoes are well received, these two additions will be welcome. Others may wish to pass on these concept books.
