Synopsis
X-ray techs Claire and Dani work at a hospital in Austin.
But when they x-ray patients of Dr. Richard Dortman, a renown spine surgeon, they discover evidence of patient harm… with no chance of reversing the injuries.
In search of additional evidence, Claire happens upon a secret corridor. One that contains surveillance monitors from cameras placed around the hospital. As Claire watches the videos, she learns about the terrifying chain of events leading up to Dr. Dortman’s surgical malpractice.
When Claire is framed for a patient’s death, she is confronted with a vast network of corruption in the hospital, and Dr. Richard Dortman’s web of deceit slowly unravels.
Then Claire uncovers the surgeon’s motive and reveals the entire horrifying truth.

Q – So what makes the X-ray Diaries series so special? A – I threw a lot of things into the X-ray Diaries, really. I have always loved medical stuff. The human body is amazing, and it’s equally amazing we can use x-rays to see inside the body. And, you may have guessed, I have a lifelong love of learning. Much about these medical thrillers comes from the heart of a teacher - everything from the female protagonist to the medical suspense and romance – it’s my hope that these elements allow the story to entertain and educate. Q – What authors inspired your writing style? A – I’m an avid reader. I enjoy the medical thrillers of Robin Cook, Bobby Akart, and Tess Gerritsen. I love the suspense of Kathy Reichs and Tana French. At the sentence level, I’m a fan of Denis Johnson and Lorrie Moore, particularly their more literary take on plot twists and perspective. And, of course, I enjoy reading nonfiction on the weird world of radioactivity. Q – When does Backscatter - Book 2 in the X-ray Diaries Series come out? A – I’m hoping for Fall 2022!
