Time is for Dragonflies and Angels is a collection of flash science fiction and novellas that embraces the ideas of multi-universes and dimensions, critical decisions and judgments, and human struggles associated with racism and dystopian societies. Recount Our Dreams is about a middle-aged widower, a visually impaired woman, and a young man diagnosed with autism that embark on an adventure of several lifetimes. Neurogenesis takes a step beyond Daniel Keyes’ Flowers for Algernon with an alternative ending finding compassion, memories and hope are pillars for kindness whether they be carbon-based or synthetic. Published in 2015, the US Review of Books describes Rogue Event as “…a dystopian concept that fits nicely alongside the stories of Huxley and Orwell.” Where conformity and emotional control is tightly maintained by one global corporation, it will be the free thinkers and the human spirit that will preserve humankind in Rogue Event. The Gray speaks of judgment – one advanced species decides the fate of another who fights amongst themselves because they look different from one another. Pulling from James Thurber’s 1939 short story, the “Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” To See Behind Walls takes a look at what that secret life might look like in a post 9/11 world filled with government surveillance, worldwide economic turmoil, pandemics and the war of terrorism. In addition to creating the Birds of Flight series and the other award-winning science fiction stories Future Prometheus and Intelligent Design, Erickson holds a BA in psychology and sociology from Boston College and a master’s degree in psychiatric social work from the Simmons School of Social Work. Certified in cognitive behavioral treatment and a post-trauma specialist, he is also a senior instructor of psychology and counseling at Cambridge College and a senior therapist in a clinical group practice in the Merrimack Valley, Massachusetts.
