unpaged. Original clack cloth. dj. Oblong (31 x 23 cm. Includes 52 black and white photographic image with brief captions on facing pages. The photos are preceded in the book by Acknowledgements [3p.] and followed by "Mirror with a Memory" -- Raymond Smith's In Time We Shall Know Ourselves by Richard H. King [11p.], First and Last: The Sequence of In Time We Shall Know Ourselves by Alexander Nemerov [13p.], and Retrospect (In Time We Shall Know Ourselves) by Raymond Smith [2p.]. This copy is still in the printer's original shrinkwrap. Ray, a good friend and fellow bookseller who died in New Haven in 2021, had been a graduate student at Yale in American Studies where Walker Evans was his photography professor. The photographs in the book were taken on a road trip in a VW Beetle taken by Ray accompanied by his friend Suzanne Boyd in 1974. This book was published in conjunction with "In Time We Shall Know Ourselves: Photographs by Raymond Smith," an exhibition organized by the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, Montgomery, Alabama, and curated by Michael Panhorst.
