The Time Machine

A work of science fiction firmly grounded in H. G. Wells’ socialist beliefs, The Time Machine is one of his most widely read novels. A time-travelling inventor living in Victorian England journeys thousands of years into the future, to an unrecognizable Earth. Humanity has evolved into two sharply separated races: the mindless Eloi and the Morlocks, a brutal community that dwells underground. As the intrepid traveller tries to find his way home, his explorations lead him closer to the most horrifying moment in time – the apocalypse.

Herbert George Wells was born in Kent on 21 September 1866. Although his education was repeatedly disrupted due to his family's financial struggles, Wells was a gifted student and went on to attain a BSc in Zoology from the University of London. His first published work was a textbook of Biology.
