This is a memoir of the experiences of a young boy in Parochial School during the late 1920s and early 1930s. The impacts of the Depression and Prohibition joined to create a dysfunctional home life. With bills pressing and no income, mother went off to New York City to become a clerk in Stern's Dept. Store on 34th Street.The Sisters of St. Joseph in a four-room school in the boy's small village in Western New York became a guiding lifeline. Loving neighbors helped fill a frequently empty stomach.

About the Author

Frank Dailey was born and raised in western New York State. He attended Niagara University, and had earned two years credit toward a chemical engineering degree when he ran out of money and went to work for Eastman Kodak in 1937. In 1939 he entered the U.S. Naval Academy. He went to sea on a destroyer in 1942, fighting in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean campaigns. He was then ordered to flight training and received his Navy wings just as the war ended. Reporting to the Aleutians in patrol planes, he employed passive countermeasures to keep track of the growing Russian threat. He then attended postgraduate school, earning a BSEE and MS in Applied Physics. After two years flying fighters in a Navy experimental squadron, he went to duty in Washington DC. With the growth of his family, he resigned his regular Navy commander position and entered the weekend warrior ranks of the Naval Air Reserve where he commanded several squadrons. He was employed in civilian jobs in R&D and retired as VP R&D, ending his Naval career almost at the same time as a Captain USNR. He formed his own consulting business and researched and wrote technical reports. He commenced writing in a more personal vein in 1997 and now considers himself an author.
