About the Author
Carrie Contey, PhD, is a nationally recognized coach, consultant, speaker, educator and the co-founder of Slow Family Living. Her background offers a unique perspective on children, parenting, family life and what it means to be a healthy, happy, whole human being. Carrie guides, supports and inspires her clients to live with a wide-open and courageous heart so that they can approach parenting, and life, with both skill and spaciousness. Carrie lives, works and plays in Austin, TX. Debby Takikawa, DC, A doctor of chiropractic by formal education, Debby Takikawa trained in the field of prenatal and infant psychology with Ray Castellino at the BEBA Clinic in Santa Barbara California. She then went on to form the nonprofit organization, Beginnings, Inc. A Resource Center for Children and Families. The mission of the clinic was to serve babies, children and their families challenged by attachment issues, birth trauma, and other health concerns. The clinic was also a teaching facility and had a mandate for public outreach and education. It was through this arm of the nonprofit that Debby made the documentary film, What Babies. CALMS is the result of Debby and Carrie Contey joining forces to address questions parents asked after watching the film. Reducing Infant Mortality is Debby s most recent film and can be seen and downloaded for free under the creative commons license at the website reducinginfantmortality. Debby lives on an organic flower and vegetable farm in Los Olivos California with her husband and her extended family.
