This is an antique title page taken from the 1822 "The Works of William Hogarth, from the original plates as restored by James Heath Esq. R.A; with the addition of many subjects not before collected: to which are prefixed, A Biographical essay on the Genius and Productions of Hogarth and Explanation of the Subjects of the Plates" The original owner has written at the top of this page, which reads: N.B. The plates in this volume are not the plates as restored by Heath, but earlier impressions with the exception of some which appear to be taken from Baldwin's Edition. Many of the, were formerly in the possession of Alderman Boydell; others belonged to Mr T. Cook, who copied many of Hogarth's engravings; others were purchased at various sales. Some were recently purchased in Cawbridge(?) in 1865 are from Heath's restored plates; and upon each of these is written in pencil 'Restored by Heath.' The overall page is sized 405 x 680 mm. The page is in good condition, apart from a slightly worn right hand side edge, and light foxing dotted across the page. Why on Amazon do most sellers not describe their actual item?
