Tnt as a Blasting Explosive (Classic Reprint)

A look at early blasting science and the practical uses of TNT.

This nonfiction work surveys experiments, field tests, and practical insights into how TNT behaved as a blasting explosive. It contrasts TNT with dynamite, explores packing methods, water resistance, and safety considerations from a historical government study.

The material covers tests in stump removal, rock work, and underwater blasting, with observations on charge sizing, hole preparation, and the effects of moisture on performance. It also discusses how cartridges were packed, wrapped, and protected to resist water, along with precautions for workers handling TNT. The report presents results from field demonstrations and controlled experiments conducted by the Bureau of Mines, offering a historical view of blasting science in practice.

• Field and laboratory comparisons of TNT and dynamite in different blasting scenarios
• Packaging methods, water-resistance observations, and cartridge design considerations
• Health and safety guidelines for TNT handling and worker protection
• Practical demonstrations and historical test results from early 20th-century experiments

Ideal for readers of industrial history, mining technology, and the evolution of blasting science.
