Description:
A well-preserved 1935 issue of The Toc H Journal, notable for its multiple identified photographic plates of Tubby Clayton across Poperinghe, India, and Canada, together with clear North Nottingham Branch provenance.
This copy bears a handwritten ink inscription reading ?North Nottingham Branch?, providing clear evidence of its original use within a specific Toc H branch and adding a distinct element of regional provenance.
The journal is illustrated with a number of photographic plates of particular interest, including Plate XXI, a portrait of Tubby Clayton in the Old House, Poperinghe (1935), photographed by E.T. Williamson; Plate V (p.57), a further portrait of Clayton taken at Belgaum, India, at Christmas 1934; and Plate XXIII (p.317), depicting Lord Byng together with Clayton and Pat Leonard in Canada on 21 March 1926. These clearly identified and dated images provide a valuable visual record of Clayton?s activities across the Toc H movement and its wider international context.
Produced for members and supporters, the journal documents the ongoing work of Toc H following its origins in Talbot House during the First World War, including reports, reflections, and organisational updates. As such, it represents valuable primary-source material relating to the movement?s expansion and influence across Britain and beyond during the interwar period.
The volume remains in good condition, with sound structure and clean, readable contents. A strong and increasingly collectible example of Toc H printed material, combining photographic interest, identifiable historical figures and clear provenance.
