In good condition. Beautifully bound with blue and gilt embellishments. Bookplate of previous owner on front paste down. Possible letter from About on front fly leaf dated from July 24th 1872, Paris signed E . Letter describes who Tolla was. Fly leaf is chipped. Light toning to text block, unmarked. Binding tight and intact. Please see photos. Edmond Francois Valentin About was a French novelist, publicist and journalist. He made his name as an entertaining anti-clerical writer. This work, first published in 1855, is the story of a young Parisian actress, gave rise to charges of drawing too freely on an earlier Italian novel, Victoria Savelli (1841).
