The title as printed on the cover is "Tom Brown at Rugby", in reference to the school Tom attends and differentiating this book from its sequel, "Tom Brown at Oxford", but it contains the same text as the sixth edition of "Tom Brown's School Days" (the original novel, first printed in 1857). This copy is remarkably well-kept, with clean pages, though showing some reciprocal toning amid the leaves due to the quality of print and paper used in this edition; there is a crease across the corners of the last two leaves; the cover shows some soot stain along spine and uppers, scattered pale specks front and back, and some wear to the cloth around edges and along spine sides, otherwise clean, free from owners' marks, and quite striking with its black inked titles and decoration on the still-vivid blue cloth. 283pp.; includes a "Preface to the Sixth Edition", concerning the author's response to various letters about the evils of bullying.; 12mo.
