Billy Name was the principal photographer of Andy Warhol's Factory. Now, "All Tomorrow's Parties" reproduces for the first time Billy Name's recently discovered photos of Warhol, his crowd, and the Factory years, images that give the era another dimensions. These color photos with their experimental use of weird color balances and diptych printing are uncannily contemporary. Together with Dave Hickey's essay and Collier Schorr's interview, Billy Name's photos reveal the Factory in all its intimate grunge and glamour. 135 photos, 122 in color.

Name's grainy, taken-on-the-run, black-and-white photographs have been the inspiration and prototype for a whole generation of photographers who have followed. Moreover, even those who don't recognize his name have some image by him?of downtown hipsters hanging out at Andy Warhol's silver-walled Factory?ingrained in their memory as a nostalgic icon of late 20th-century culture. The prints in this catalog leave a very different impression even while covering the same subject. In 1968, when the Factory moved to its second location and lost its silver walls, Name began taking color photographs, but he only recently rediscovered the film and made prints. Because of aging, the colors are sometimes strange and garish, which only adds to an incredible vitality in these candid portraits. Though the faces are familiar, those washed-out hipsters suddenly look young, naive, and energetic.
