DAVID GOLDSMITH, PhD, is the editor of this series. He is Professor of Chemistry at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He is former Chair of the Emory Chemistry Department and has been Visiting Professor at Stras-bourg, Mulhouse, and Grenoble. Professor Goldsmith received his PhD in organic chemistry from Columbia University. His research interests have been principally in the field of natural product synthesis.

Michael C. Pirrung, PhD, is the author of this volume. He is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of California-Riverside. He received his PhD in organic chemistry at UC-Berkeley in 1980 under the direction of Clayton Heathcock and did postdoctoral work with Gilbert Stork at Columbia as an NSF postdoctoral fellow. He has served on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Combinatorial Chemistry, QSAR and Combinatorial Science, and Chemistry and Biology.
