To Touch A Nerve: A Collection of Poems

To Touch A Nerve tackles shame, guilt and self-condemnation and other issues that most are afraid to talk about. It is a soul-baring accumulation of rude awakenings and spiritual arousal that turns a curse to a blessing; proving that God's mercy and grace, love and compassion can truly bring an unknown strength to the surface. This collection of poetry is a thank you to those who uplifted, kept confidence and gave hope to a man who hadn't loved himself for some time. Thank you for touching that nerve.

Michael Lexton Hawkins is a 54 year old, New Britain poet. He lives his life to its fullest potential since being diagnosed with A.I.D.S. and Hepatitis C. Over the years, he has battled with mental health issues, substance abuse and sexual and domestic abuse but found a release with writing that has brought him to a better place. To Touch A Nerve is his first collection of poetry but not by far his last. "I bare my soul, in hopes that through my poetry I will touch nerves and let people know that we can rise above the biggest obstacles in life and turn them into stepping stones."
