Three-quarter red morocco leather and marbled boards. 16mo. The 4th edition. (12), 80, 14 pp. A very interesting anti-Catholic work in which the author list tables of scriptural citations on various topics including marriage, baptism, communion, Popish transubstantation, witchcraft, etc. On each page there are two columns which contain citations from the Old and New Testaments. The first edition of this work appeared in 1621 and the N.U.C. locates 3 copies. Other editions appeared in 1624, 1630 and 1634. Of this edition the N.U.C. locates only 4 copies. James Warre also was the author of "The Merchants hand-maide" (1632). In terms of condition this is a very good copy with some wear to the leather binding along the spine. The binding is by A.J. Cox & Co. and is probably 19th century. Internally the text is in very good condition with foxing and spotting to several pages and a tiny piece missing from the upper corner of one page. A previous owner has made several tiny ink notations to the text. This copy is bound with new endpapers and the text begins with the title page. Pages 43 has a closed tear at the bottom left corner but no text is missing. The marbled front flyleaf is detached but present. A very nice, unsophisticated copy of this rare early work.
