Original blue cloth 8x13cm, gilt-titled in French to one panel and Arabic to the other. (2)pp printed pastedowns. Covers very good with some marks and several small faded patches, interiors near fine. The left-hand panel, ink stamped No. 1,635 and printed with ms entries in French, states this was issued to a Mrs J. Hinwood(?) on 28 December 1903, allowing her to visit all the monuments in Upper Egypt up to 30 June 1904. A note states the 1,200 Egyptian Piastre fee will be used to finance their conservation. This is hand-signed on behalf of the Director General, who at that time was Gaston Maspero (another example seen for 1923 includes an ink-stamped version of the same signature, and had kept the fee at the same level). The right-hand panel states the terms and conditions in French, English and Arabic, with a circular Musee Egyptien ink stamp across both. This looks to be an extremely rare survivor, with holders urged to "not hand over the ticket to any third person but will, so soon as it is no longer needed, destroy it; this is to avoid possible fraud".…
